Neustadt in Holstein

Along with the idyllic Baltic resort of Rettin and the water sport paradise of Pelzerhaken, Neustadt is part of the Bay of Lübeck’s “maritime trio”. The exquisite town is known to many as the home port of Albatross II – the ship from the popular ZDF television series “Küstenwache”.

Top attractions

Gazing at the little boats, eating fish sandwiches and sauntering around – Neustadt harbour is the perfect place for experiencing maritime life. Away from the harbour, Neustadt has a lot to offer for art lovers and culture vultures. Installations and sculptures by artists from Schleswig-Holstein are placed along the Jungfernsteig stretch on the south beach. Walk past the historic granary (known as the “pagoda”, due to its design), and up to Ostholstein’s only surviving city gate. Here you will find the zeiTTor, a modern adventure museum, where you can delve into Neustadt’s eventful past. Gut Sierhagen is also good for a family day out. It is best reached by bike from Neustadt or Sierksdorf. The agricultural machinery exhibition “field and fun”, the sculpture park, the rose and herb garden and the palm house café offer a great deal of variety for all tastes. After all that exploring, a bite to eat will be a welcome sight. Head to Klüvers Brauhaus in the direct vicinity of the harbour, where home-brewed lager, wheat beer, pils beer, bock beer and tasty food are served.
